County Recycling Program

Project Summary

Washington County would like to set up a permanent single stream recycling drop-off location for its citizens. The site would consist of a 22 feet by 8 feet roll-off dumpster, a two-yard compactor, along with site preparations and safety mechanisms. The roll-off dumpsters would be provided by Greenstar, a recycling company out of Pittsburgh.

The county will be using Department of Energy Grant funds for the purchase of equipment and site preparation. The county doesn't have the man power to staff the site and in an effort to leverage funds, the county is looking to partner within a central municipality, for easier access to a larger portion of county citizens.

The county will be responsible for the set-up, including site preparation, equipment purchasing, and any warranties for said equipment, as well as setting up training for site operation. The municipality will be responsible for all operations and maintenance including site upkeep, staffing, utility bills, covering transportation and processing fees (as deemed by commodity prices), and reporting. Reporting will consist of hauler tonnage numbers, by month, to the municipality, who will then pass those reports on to the county for posting.
