S.Timothy Warco- Washington County Coroner


S.Timothy Warco was born and raised in Washington County and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1969, California University in 1973 with a B.A. in Psychology and Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1974 and became a licensed Pennsylvania Funeral Director in 1975. Tim was certified by the Pennsylvania State Attorney General to officially serve as Coroner in December of 1989 and has maintained his legal certification under the Pennsylvania Coroner’s Education Board.

In 2014, Tim was awarded the status of Diplomate of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators, signifying proficiency in all aspects of medicolegal death investigation.

In 2017, under Tim’s tenure, the Washington County Coroner’s Office was granted full accreditation by the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners, a professional standards organization with stringent requirements for policy, procedure and professionalism.

Tim was elected Washington County Coroner in November 1991 and was sworn into office January of 1992. Prior to that time, he served as Washington County Deputy Coroner under the late Farrell Jackson for 17 years.

He has continued his education in all areas of forensic science and medical-legal death investigation accumulating over 800 hours of continuing education in areas including mass casualty training, ballistics, blood staining recognition, forensic anthropology, photography, odontology and many more forensic disciplines.

This office has continued in the area of public safety set forth by the late Farrell Jackson who served as Washington County Coroner for 33 years, 8 ½ months. The office has addressed 293 unsafe conditions brought to us by the citizens of Washington County, rectifying nearly all of them.

For the past 27 years, Tim and his deputies have participated in mock accidents at area high schools concerning the consequences of drinking and driving and has lectured across Washington County of the duties and responsibilities of the Coroner’s office. His newest endeavor is addressing the community regarding the epidemic of drug abuse. He is a member of the Washington County Child Death Review Team and serves as Coroner on the Washington County DA/Protective Services Investigative Unit.

Tim is active in many social and civic organizations throughout Washington County and maintains membership with the Pennsylvania State Coroner’s Association where he serves as Region 5 Vice President on the Executive Board, the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators and the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners.
