John has been an Assistant District Attorney in Washington County since February 2013. He has experience as a trial attorney in both the Washington and Greene County District Attorney's Offices, having tried over 45 jury trials and over 15 bench trials to verdict in a range of offenses, including First-Degree Homicide, violent felonies, child rape, drug deliveries, DUI, as well as public fraud and theft offenses. He has practiced before the courts in Washington, Greene, and Fayette Counties, as well as the Pennsylvania Superior and Supreme Courts, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
John is a native Buckeye, hailing from Parma Heights, Ohio. He graduated cum laude from Washington & Jefferson College in 2002, where he majored in political science and history, concentrating on Cold War history and comparative politics. He continues to advise the Delta Tau Delta fraternity chapter, and hosts a weekly oldies show on W&J's radio station WNJR, where he started his radio career almost 20 years ago.
Returning home for law school, John graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University in 2005. He received the Federal Bar Association Award in Constitutional Law and was honored to assist Dr. David Forte in his editing of the Heritage Guide to the Constitution. He concentrated his studies on constitutional law, European Union law, and authored papers on federal broadcast indecency regulation and the Kennedy Administration’s imperial attitudes towards international relations.
Before joining the District Attorney's Office, John was an attorney for Southwestern Pennsylvania Legal Services in Uniontown, where he represented victims of domestic violence in family law matters--PFA, custody, divorce, support--as well as low-income and disadvantaged clients in landlord-tenant, consumer, and property matters. He started his legal career at McLaughlin & McCaffrey, LLP in Cleveland, Ohio, a boutique white collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation firm, where he assisted in trial preparation and drafting of pleadings, motions, and briefs in federal and state bank and wire fraud, money laundering, False Claims Act violations, toxic tort, and complex commercial matters.
